This presenter is a thought leader in workforce development, providing a technology-based approach through virtual reality with TRANSFR VR. Manufacturing, construction and other skilled trades in the US currently face a major skills gap, with ~40% of baby boomers expected to retire within the next decade coupled with an up and coming generation who are unaware or uninterested in these occupations. Bharani will share experiences in developing public/private partnerships that utilize simulation-based training in virtual reality and creating new classroom to career pathways. Most recently, TRANSFR was named as Alabama’s official statewide training partner for JumpstartAL, a program that brings together the DOE/DOL, workforce development, community college system, K-12 and industry members with a mission of filling 500,000 jobs by 2025. The initiative is underpinned by TRANSFR’s virtual training facility to enable a shift in recruiting and training of the younger generation that ultimately closes the skills gap.

Prior to COVID-19, only 10% of teachers had ever experienced an online learning environment, let alone taught in one. Overnight, 100% of teachers are now expected to teach online. CTE teachers will be expected to adopt a hybrid blended approach until the pandemic abates. As teachers seek to find solutions to support students as they transition between at-home and in-school learning, the choice of learning platform is important. This session examines the needs of CTE teachers to manage a broad spectrum of student needs and how to best manage it in a hybrid learning environment.
