MARCH 19, 2021
Students will submit their book in whatever format works best for them (see Preliminary Round details of VIRTUAL event guide) and final portfolio. They will also submit a video of them reading their book to an “audience”, whether that is a sibling, virtual classroom, etc.
All teams will sign up for a time on March 26, starting at 1:30 pm, 15 minute time slots. Teams should be prepared to explain their design process, and roles, and answer interview questions.

Event Deadlines & Information
MARCH 26, 2020
Students will take an exam on March 26, starting at 10:30 am. Students will have 1 hour for the exam. Students must have their camera on while they are taking the exam, and the moveaway feature will be enabled, to track if students switch to a different tab on their device/computer.
Finalist list will be posted at 12:00 (Noon).
Finalists will compete in a virtual coding challenge starting at 1:30 pm, and will have 2 hours to complete the challenge and upload their answers in a format that the judges can access.

Flight (MS)
Event Deadlines & Information
MARCH 24, 2021
Students will submit final portfolio. Students will sign up for a time to flight test their plane (check back for time/day).
On a live call/Zoom/facetime, students will test their plane for 3 flights. There will NOT be an additional final round build for this event.
Students will need to be prepared to launch their planes, so they will need a catapult, and someone to hold their phone/camera device while they are testing (so we can see the student, the launch and the flight).
Please talk to your advisor to coordinate this event.

Students will take a forensic exam on March 25, starting at 10:00 am. Students will have 1 hour for the exam.

We would really like to race the cars this year, and livestream it for viewers.
Students should mail their cars to the following address:

Students should create a “guide to racing my car” so that we follow their instructions exactly for race day.
If none of these options is possible, then those students will create a race video using the virtual guide criteria, and submit the video. Portfolios will be uploaded.

Students will submit their book in whatever format works best for them (see Preliminary Round details of VIRTUAL event guide) and final portfolio. They will ALSO submit a video of them reading their book to an “audience”, whether that is a sibling, virtual classroom, etc.

Finalist teams will sign up for a time on March 25. Times will start at 5:00 pm, 15 minute time slots. Teams should be prepared to explain their design process, and roles, and answer interview questions.

Debating Technology Issues (HS)
Event Deadlines & Information
MARCH 26, 2021
Teams will compete in a virtual debate competition. Debates begin at 4:00 pm on March 26.
Debate subtopic will be posted at 4:00 pm on March 25.
Teams will sign up for a time slot to debate. If a team has to debate twice, only their best score will be used.
Teams will sign on to Zoom prior to their time, and be held in a waiting room until it is their turn to debate. Any team not in the waiting room at their time will be automatically DQed.
When teams sign up for a time, they will be asked if they are willing to debate twice. They will also be asked for a contact phone number, so that they can be reached on the 26th if they are needed (if, for instance, the second team doesn’t show up for their time).

Extemporaneous Speech (HS)
Event Deadlines & Information
MARCH 25, 2021
This is a change!
Students will compete in a live, virtual challenge. All students will sign up for a time slot, starting at 10:30 am on March 25.
15 minutes prior to their time slot, students sign on to zoom link to receive their topic.
Students stay on Zoom for proctoring while they are writing their notes. Students cannot use phones, laptops or other devices to look up information on their topic. At the end of their 14 minutes, they will be moved into the breakout room to give their speech. They will identify themselves with their competitor number and first name, and start their speech.
Finalist list will post on the morning of March 26. Top 8 will go to finals.
Finalists will compete starting at 5:30 pm on March 26.

Flight Endurance (HS)

MARCH 24, 2021
This is a change!
Students will submit their portfolio and 2 videos by 11:00 am on March 25.
STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE TO CREATE A FLIGHT BOX THIS YEAR
The first video is a competition flight video, using your best flight. The video must be a continuous video, with a visible timer running in the video.
The second video needs to be a visual demonstration that your plane meets all of the size and weight requirements in the event guide. This includes propeller diameter, fuselage dimension with prop assembly attached, and motor weight.
Obviously, it would work better if you can conduct your flight in an interior space, such as a gym or other large structure. If you (as a student) do not have access to a gym or large structure at your school, find out if your advisor has access, and could launch your plane and video it for you.
If that isn’t an option, you could check with local convention centers, warehouses, or other entities in your local area who might let you fly. Washington TSA does not make any recommendations for who you should contact. These are simply suggestions.

Forensic Science (HS)
Event Deadlines & Information
MARCH 25, 2021
All students will take a forensic exam, starting at 10:00 am on March 25. Students will have 1 hour for the exam. Individual scores will be combined for team members.
Students must have their camera on while they are taking the exam.
The test will be proctored virtually.
The moveaway feature will be enabled, to track if students switch to a different tab on their device/computer.
The finalist list will post at 11:30 am.
Finalists will analyze a virtual crime scene. The crime scene video will post at 1:00 pm. Watch the video by clicking the button below. Finalists will have 45 minutes to analyze and sketch the crime scene. Note all pertinent processes and precautions that would need to be taken. Upload your analysis as a PDF, including notes, sketches, photos, etc.

Students submit their completed portfolio. Students will also sign up for a time slot on March 26 to present to judges and answer questions. Students will be able to screen share to present model and display.
Presentations will be on March 26, starting at 11:30 am, 15 minute time slots.

This event will be run at the 2021 virtual National TSA Conference. Teams do have to qualify at the state level before competing at Nationals. This year, Washington TSA has sports for 3 high school teams See details
