Hosted by: Alexa Mitchell, Virginia Youth In Action Award Winner – Overall Winner, Presented by: Virginia 4-H All Stars & Alexa Mitchell

During this interactive workshop, participants will be introduced to who/what VA 4-H All Stars are and represent: SERVICE to 4-H and our communities… the epitome of civic engagement. All Star Scholarship winners as well as local, chapter and state All Stars will share their service experiences, opportunities and many varied ways to evoke engagement. During the interviews of these younger member All Star leaders, participants will learn what events, projects and leadership roles they can participate to be engaged as well. Co-Facilitator and Youth in Action Award winner, Alexa Mitchell will provide leadership and details of his/her success as an award winner and civic leader.

Yoga is Fun!

Hosted by: Martina Essert, Virginia Youth in Action Award Winner, Presented by: Associate Extension Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences

Yoga is a great way to improve flexibility, balance, and strength through simple exercises while having FUN! It can also help improve concentration/focus, self-esteem and listening skills in youth. PLUS…no yoga experience is needed to participate in this workshop! We will be using curriculum designed by the University of Arkansas Extension which incorporates using our Head, Heart, Hands, and Health in a low pressure, positive, and supportive environment for all participants. You won’t want to miss this workshop!

Ever wonder how a cow gets pregnant? Wonder no more with our Bovine Reproductive Technologies Workshop! We will explore the cow’s reproductive tract anatomy and physiology, and learn about different reproductive technologies, such as pregnancy diagnosis with ultrasonography, artificial insemination, and embryo transfer!

Elections – Online Voting

The State 4-H Cabinet/Ambassador team is the elite 4-H teen leader group. Not only does this group play a large role in planning and conducting the Virginia State 4-H Congress, but it also has the responsibility of enhancing public understanding of 4-H.Play your role in selected our leaders for next year!

Voting will be conducted virtually this year.  Voting access codes and electronic ballots will be distributed directly by email to the email address used for your registration and access for this Virtual Congress.  Voting will last all day on July 22 and will close at 11:59 p.m.

STEM in Sports Turf Management: The Hidden Science Behind Lane Stadium’s Worsham Field

Hosted by: Eli Price, Virginia Youth in Action Award Winner
Presented by Dr. Daniel Sandor, PhD, Collegiate Assistant Professor, Turfgrass Science, Virginia Tech

Come see how the various aspects of STEM core principles are used to manage Worsham field by VT athletics grounds crew. We will demonstrate how math is critical for in maintaining the playing surface, how new technologies help turf managers determine how much water is applied to the field, and how to provide a safe playing surface for student-athletes. We will provide a dynamic, inside look into some big differences between natural grass and artificial playing surfaces and how these fields are constructed (e.g., “engineered”) compared to the average neighborhood home lawn.
